JOB DESCRIPTION

Applications are welcome from internal and external candidates. For all IOM vacancies, applications from qualified and eligible first-tier candidates are considered before those of qualified and eligible second-tier candidates in the selection process. For the purpose of this vacancy, internal candidates are considered first-tier candidates.
Context

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is an organization of the United Nations with 174 Member States committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. Established in 1951 and now active in over 400 field locations in 100 countries worldwide, IOM works with governments, civil society and other partners to: assist in meeting the operational challenges of migration governance; advance understanding of migration issues; promote social and economic development through migration; and uphold the human dignity and well-being of migrants.

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and Head of Protection and Health Unit and the direct supervision of the Head of Sub-office (first supervisor) and of the Migration and Health Physician (second supervisor), the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the work of IOM Zarzis on Migration and Health.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform daily nursing activities in the framework of health direct assistance and AVRR of medical cases.
  2. Provide information and detailed explanations to the migrants in relation to:

 

  • IOM health assistance;
  • The migration health assessment process before movements; and,
  • Treatments and referrals.

3. Ensure proper identification and follow-up by:

  • Comprehensive history taking;
  • Referrals to doctors and hospitals and,
  • Accompany particularly vulnerable migrants to hospitals;
  • Raise awareness about migrants’ right to health with health service providers.
  • Keeping a register of applicants who benefit from health assistance.

4. Contribute to providing counselling and health education to migrants, on health prevention and management as appropriate.

5.Support with maintaining and updating IOM database in the area of migration and health for the sub-office, including  through ensuring that all health assistance to beneficiaries is recorded on the IOM Migrant Management & Operational System (MiMosa) and other relevant databases. Timely provide data for reporting.

6. Prepare administrative reports and updates on health trends in the region as necessary.

7.Assist with pre-departure documents, briefings and preparations as necessary.

8.Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate the follow up and relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians, NGO’s and others as applicable.

9 .Collect statistical information and share with the Head of sub-office and the Senior Project Assistant in Tunis

10.Perform other duties as may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing from an accredited academic institution in Nursing in countries where the Diploma allows to fulfil the full scope of responsibilities defined in PDs.
  • A valid license to practice nursing in the country of duty station
Experience
  • For Bachelor’s Degree holder a minimum of two years of relevant clinical experience and for Diploma holder a minimum of four years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Excellent technical skills.
  • Experience in working with people from different cultural background is an advantage.
  • Training or working experience in the areas of Tuberculosis management, mass immunizations, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of and experience in clinical nursing.
  • Knowledge of principles of preventive care and disease control

 

Skills
  • Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously within people at different levels within and outside organization and with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds;
  • Candidate should be highly motivated with dynamic personality and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to draft correspondence and communicate effectively;
  • High level of computer literacy (MS Office Word, Excel and Outlook); experience in handling web-based management system;
  • Ability to analyse and interpret source information and data; capable of designing, reviewing and revising business processes to achieve efficiency;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in all three languages (Arabic, French, English);
  • Attention to details and problem-solving skills;
  • Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously within a team of colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.

 

Languages

       For all applicants, fluency in French is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of English or Arabic.
